THE LAKE HOUSE
How to Style your Bedroom.
Saint & Noire drew inspiration from the stunning and idyllic setting of Lake Como, Italy, to meet our client’s desire for a redesign of their private residential apartment in the area. The room that needed the most attention was the master bedroom, considered the most important and intimate space in our homes—a place to escape, relax, and recharge.
The interior design of a bedroom plays a crucial role in the quality of our sleep. We all understand the benefits of a good night's rest and the negative effects of insufficient sleep. In this article, we will discuss the key features of a master bedroom that contribute to a restful night. From selecting the ideal bed to incorporating sleep-inspiring scents, cozy textiles, and comfortable cushions, we’ll cover it all. For our clients, a good night's sleep is the foundation of a productive day.
No.1 The New Bed
If you're looking to enjoy a calming and stylish nap, you’ll want the best of the best when it comes to beds. We recommend opting for handcrafted designs that create the perfect sleeping environment without compromising on style. Many of our clients prefer beds with tall, statement-making headboards, which provide a striking centerpiece for the bedroom and help to define the space, making it easier to unwind after a busy day. When choosing a new bed, consider pairing it with a high-quality mattress crafted by skilled artisans to ensure the ultimate support tailored to your needs. We suggest authentic wool mattresses, as they help regulate temperature, promoting a great night’s sleep.
No.2 Mood and Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy candles can enhance the beauty of your bedroom, but they also offer the benefits of essential oils that soothe the soul, body, and mind. Some of our favorite floral and sweet scents that promote sleep in your master bedroom include: - **Ylang Ylang**: Known for its sedative effects, Ylang Ylang can help reduce stress, anxiety, and hypertension before bedtime. - **Lavender**: Widely recognized for its relaxing properties, Lavender can improve the quality of your sleep. We recommend diffusing a lavender oil-based candle about an hour before you plan to sleep. - **Neroli**: Often regarded as a 'sleep remedy', Neroli has soothing properties that help relax the mind, relieve insomnia, and may reduce blood pressure and ease agitation according to some studies. You can use these scents individually or combine them to create a tranquil space that enhances sleep and promotes overall well-being.
No.3 Bedspreads and Throws
The color and texture palettes, along with the overall presentation, play a crucial and collaborative role in creating a master bedroom that invites relaxation and sleep. When we envision the most luxurious night's sleep, we often think of our favorite hotel. To recreate that experience and ensure you sleep well throughout the year, choose clean and elegant neutral tones, ranging from whites and creams to greys. Enhance your comfort with soft textures such as cotton and linen. The theme should be one of overflowing presentation, featuring thoughtfully placed throws and long, luxurious borders on the pillowcases.
No.4 Cushions
There are cushions designed for sleeping and those meant for decorating your master bedroom. By placing them on the bed, under your legs, or on armchairs while you read, cushions can add pattern and vibrance to your space. Luxury fashion designers often go unrecognized for their home collections, but you might be pleasantly surprised to find exquisite statement pieces for your master bedroom from brands like Missoni, Mulberry, and Roberto Cavalli. A combination of accent fabrics, such as velvet and linen, can easily refresh your interiors with minimal effort while making a significant impact.
