Saint & Noire was commissioned to create a unique bespoke proposal for the refurbishment of a private family-owned luxury superyacht - the ‘Sunseeker Predator 130’ based in Cote d’ Azure, Monaco. This particular yacht redefines the lavish boating experience with the latest in design and innovation technology. The alluring concept inspired the team to share our expertise on “how you can design your dream home at sea”, with interior design that beautifully adapts and enhances the environment of each deck, so you can drift off in maritime style.

For many of our clients, their yacht is their second home and demands a specialist investment of thought and detail compared to that of a house on dry land. Your second home at sea may well be floating but can be reflective of your personal style and the purpose of your yacht. Is it for escapism? Is it for socialising? Is it for travelling? The climate where you choose to dock and the water temperature where you choose to sail can also impact the design approach. All these factors will determine the outcome of your boat design. At Saint & Noire we want our clients to achieve “shipshape” design and become a “ruler of the sea”, and have compiled the latest yacht design trends to follow in 2021”, which consider the fundamental “Four F’s” - floor plan, fabrics, furnishings and finishings of superyacht interior design.

FLOOR PLAN

Today’s superyacht client is the average age of 40 and requires a family-friendly floor plan that feels personal and comfortable. Functionality is the core of any interior design concept of a yacht. Space must have the flexibility and be multitasking but also visually appealing, whilst serving the intention for space. If the client wishes to seek a getaway, the addition of a wellness retreat may be top of mind with the desire for an onboard spa or gym. If the purpose is for entertaining then a cocktail bar will be essential to complete the yacht experience whilst making most of the square footage.

FABRICS

Inspired by Scandi style, a warm and neutral colour palette of pure white, muted tones and natural hues from brown to beige reflect serenity, elegance and balance. Contrasting texture is pivotal in a minimalist space to add warmth, softness and make the space cosy. Linen and wool cushions, fluffy rugs and plants can work wonderfully to blend the outdoors and indoors and make the move towards sustainability and eco-luxe.

FURNISHINGS

Channelling natural light helps to set up an intimate or illuminating atmosphere and enhance contemporary decor. The addition of modern lighting can also help to segment the yacht space into specific zones for relaxing, entertaining, cooking, socialising and provide an effortless flow in the ultimate holiday home at sea. Furnishings are also built to consider seamless and handless storage. Push-to-open features can make the room feel sleek and flush and offer an organised solution.

FINISHINGS

Reimagining furniture with natural materials from light untreated woods, metal coated in brass, glass and stone are key focal points for finishes in 2021 superyacht interior design. Shiny glass surfaces against the rough texture of the wood make a bold and inviting statement, whilst marble or quartz finishes remain a modern classic, especially for luxurious countertops. Sculptural furniture is also making a great comeback and transforming our homes and yachts to be less informal and more laid back. Accent pieces can instantly become the highlight of each deck and offer emotion, energy and depth.
